Challenge

As shopping is shifting from traditional search toward AI-powered assistants, PayPal needed to define its role in an emerging agentic commerce ecosystem. The challenge was to envision how payments could integrate seamlessly into these new experiences while maintaining the trust, security, and reliability users expect from PayPal.

I led the experience design and creative direction across PayPal.com, establishing a new visual language for agentic AI and translating an emerging product strategy into a cohesive customer-facing experience.

Objectives

Help merchants understand and adopt PayPal's agentic commerce solutions to grow their businesses while defining how PayPal’s agentic commerce vision would come to life on dot com.

PayPal.ai Landing Page

Live site

The PayPal.ai overview page serves as the central entry point to PayPal’s agentic commerce ecosystem, helping merchants understand the opportunity, see how PayPal’s products support emerging AI shopping experiences, and navigate to the solutions and resources most relevant to their business.

Secondary navigation

We created a dedicated secondary navigation to establish a scalable information architecture for PayPal’s growing agentic commerce ecosystem. PayPal.ai serves as the central hub, with direct pathways to individual products, developer documentation, and sales support.

Agent Ready

Agent Ready extends PayPal’s existing payments and protection capabilities into AI shopping experiences, giving merchants a seamless way to accept payments across agentic channels without a new integration.

This product page aims to answer a fundamental question merchants are asking themselves: How do I accept payments when customers begin shopping through AI?

The page reframes PayPal’s existing payments, fraud protection, identity, and seller protections for agentic channels, helping merchants understand that they can extend familiar PayPal capabilities into this new environment without rebuilding their payment infrastructure.

The experience moves from the core value proposition into payment choice, protection, and integration, progressively building confidence in how PayPal supports agent-driven transactions.

Store Sync

While the Agent Ready feature focuses on the ability to take payments in agentic conversations, the Store Sync feature enables the product discovery during agentic shopping, as well as backend commerce orchestration.

The goal of this page was to show merchants how a single connection could make their catalogs discoverable across participating AI shopping platforms, keep product information accurate, and move customers from discovery to purchase, all while preserving the brand control, customer ownership, and transaction trust merchants expect from PayPal.

Because the underlying ecosystem is very technically complex, the experience was designed around a simple narrative: connect once, reach multiple surfaces, and remain in control.

Visual language

These themes created intuitive pathways into deeper product experiences and extended across the site, establishing a consistent narrative and intentional information architecture.

The final direction balanced innovation with familiarity, evolving PayPal’s established visual language through subtle gradients, darker treatments, and AI-inspired cues while keeping the brand’s signature blue at the forefront. The goal was to signal a new, future-facing offering without making the experience feel disconnected from the PayPal that merchants already know and trust.

To make agentic commerce feel tangible, I visualized interactions between merchants, products, consumers, and agents through UI patterns that were reflected in other areas of the dot com experience. Drawing from the interfaces merchants already encounter across PayPal helped simplify complex backend processes while keeping the experience cohesive with the broader site.

UI & Microanimations

Takeaways

Agentic Commerce gave me the opportunity to design for an emerging product category rather than optimize an established one. The challenge of this microsite extended far beyond interface design. We were simultaneously defining the information architecture, product narrative, visual language, and trust signals merchants would use to understand an unfamiliar technology.

The work we did in the agentic space reinforced the role design plays in shaping not only how emerging technologies function, but how they’re understood, trusted, and adopted within a rapidly evolving payments landscape.
